    Ceramics - Fall Workshop #1 Date: Wednesday, October 2, 2019 Time: 6:00 pm-9:00 pm Location: Manchester Arts Studio & Gallery Fee: $180

    Students will learn the basic skills of hand-building – pinch, coil, and slab – as well as basic wheel-throwing techniques. All projects will be kiln fired. Materials include a 25 lb. bag of clay, glazes, and firing. Additional clay may be purchased for $18 a bag. This workshop is open to all levels. Registration also includes up to two hours of additional open studio time to work on existing class projects. Class size is limited.

    The Art and Craft of Short Story Writing Date: Thursday, October 3, 2019 Time: 1:00 pm-3:30 pm Location: Equinox Terrace Fee: $90

    This writing workshop is for anyone who wants to work on crafting one to two short stories during four sessions under the guidance of an award-winning writer of both fiction and non-fiction. Each week participants will be assigned a noted writers’ short story to discuss in the workshop with an eye to craft. They will also work on the story they are writing as homework, and share in class what they’ve written in an atmosphere of supportive critique. During the course of the workshop, techniques for strengthening the crafting of fiction will be offered as well as online editorial assistance and advice from the instructor.

    Kitchen Table Art Date: Saturday, October 5, 2019 Time: 9:30 am-4:00 pm Location: Long Trail School, Whalen Common Room Fee: $125

    This is a workshop in making art with portable, non-messy, minimal supplies. “Dry” painting, it has been called. No buckets of water or tubes of paint necessary, and “clean-up” is a snap. Learn how to make expressive images wherever you are – on a plane, in a café, on the beach, in a cabin, or at your kitchen table – without compromising intensity of color or quality of the work. Discover new, convenient, art materials and techniques for quick, on-the-go, art sessions. Jane works in abstract imagery, but students should feel free to work in whatever genre you like.

    This ceramics workshop is designed to acquaint students with the forming and processing of clay from its raw state to the finished product, develop skills with three hand-building techniques and the wheel, understand basic glaze application, and firing techniques. Students draw from personal experiences to develop creativity and expressive content in projects. All projects made in class will be kiln fired. Materials include a 25 lb. bag of clay, and glazes . This workshop is open to all levels. Class size is limited.

    Sterling Silver Chain Maille Earrings Date: Monday, November 18, 2019 Time: 6:00 pm-8:00 pm Location: Manchester Arts Studio & Gallery Fee: $40

    Begin your adventures in chain maille by learning the ancient Byzantine pattern for weaving chains. In this workshop, you will learn how to turn simple jump rings into a beautiful pair of woven earrings. This pattern is an excellent starting point for learning chain maille. You will have a choice of beads to finish your design.

    Handcraft a Holiday Wooden Sign Date: Sunday, December 1, 2019 Time: 4:00 pm-6:30 pm Location: Manchester Arts Studio & Gallery Fee: $48

    Participants may choose either a JOY or NOEL sign when signing up. For those making the JOY sign, the O in JOY may be replaced by a holiday symbol – star, ornament, snowflake – on the night of the workshop. The boards will be put together for you beforehand; you will stain or paint the sign background and then stencil on your chosen design during this festive workshop.
